“Real art always gives the same experience, a sense of the divine.” ~Swami Premodaya
Sky Takoda Nathan
Artist statement:
“I love to marvel over the unique patterns and quirks that make us all individual, that life and nature inevitably reveal when we look close enough.
I paint as an expression of the unsayable, as an outlet to heal personal trauma, and as a celebration of life itself.”
Bio:
Sky has earned his living as a 24 year veteran of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Local 44—the art department (set decoration and props) of the film and television industry. He has also serves as the technical director for International Centers of Divine Awakening (ICODA)—a non-profit spiritual organization.
Moving to Los Angeles in the late 90’s to pursue a career in film production, after some success Sky quickly identified feeling quite miserable and became determined to find another way to happiness other than material objects and social ideals.
A series of undeniable and mystical events led him to feet of a spiritual teacher, Swami Premodaya. Through this teacher, he says he witnessed, “blazing recognition of the actuality of the divine itself”, and; was propelled quickly and profoundly on the spiritual path of bhakti (love and devotion). Soon after, from grace itself, Sky was given the good fortune of being formally initiated into discipleship with his now obvious and identified Satguru, Swami Premodaya. This is when Premodaya named him Sky. “…over flowing, yet completely empty, holding all that needs to be held—just like the open sky.”
Years of spiritual practice have included world travel and devotional service, which influence the depth and sensitivity of Sky’s artistic expression. However, it wasn’t until intensively addressing complex PTSD, that an explosion of creative expression had emerged and Sky moved beyond hobby creating and became actual artist.
As an active artist Sky has been commissioned by private collectors, sought out for a number of film and television projects, and continues to create for personal joy.
We hope you’ll enjoy the living presence of the works within the Takoda Gallery.
